Launching one of WA’s biggest wind farms

Overview

Alinta Energy has been part of the WA energy landscape for 25 years and is one of the leading suppliers of gas to WA households, right through to major industrial players in the Pilbara.

Since competition was introduced into the residential market in 2017, Alinta has been focused on retaining, and growing, its share of the local market.

Showcasing its green credentials is an important part of that and, as an energy provider, it is one of the leaders in the renewable energy space.

Challenge

Alinta engaged Purple to help launch, and amplify the news of, one of the State’s biggest wind farms – in the small wheatbelt town of Dandaragan, more than 175km north of Perth. The distance from Perth, and the implementation of COVID-19 restrictions, presented big challenges.

Solution

Purple supported the Alinta team to plan and run a sophisticated launch event. The event attracted international and eastern states visitors, due to Alinta’s partnership with RATCH, so required some fine dining, entertainment and even the spray painting of a massive Alinta logo – not an easy feat in a windy paddock with the morning dew very likely to impact the artwork just before the guests and media arrived.

Results

The launch of the Yandin wind farm, consisting of 51 wind turbines which creates enough energy to power 200, 000 homes, was a huge success and resulted in extensive media coverage in both State newspapers and commercial television. Interviews conducted by our team were also amplified across Alinta’s own channels. The project highlighted our skills in event, stakeholder and media management as we supported one of Australia’s biggest energy companies to successfully launch one of WA’s most significant wind farms and showcase its green credentials.
